Seeking performers for “Gilligan’s Island: The Musical” (Lansdale, PA)

Non-union, no pay, but tons of fun! Casting Gilligan, Skipper, Mr. and Mrs. Howell for Gilligan’s Island: The Musical. Book by original series creator Sherwood Schwartz and Lloyd Schwartz. Music and lyrics by Laurence and Hope Juber. Only casting the above four roles – all other roles are cast.

Auditions Sunday March 28, 2010, 6 pm – 10 pm. The Peak Center – 315 W. Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446. Please enter through the back door off of the Madison parking lot.

GILLIGAN: Mid-20’s. Awkward and gangly, 5’9” or taller. Innocent, loveable, clumsy, naïve. Must be able to stumble and pratfall without hurting himself. Not as clueless as the others tend to think. Goofy, but sensitive. Has a big heart. Tenor with some comedic falsetto.

SKIPPER: To play 40+. Big and strong, easily exasperated, but a big teddy bear of a guy. Retired Navy officer. Brave and protective leader of the Castaways – maintains law and order. Father figure to Gilligan. Baritone.

THURSTON HOWELL III: To play 60+. Rich, spoiled, powerful businessman. Primarily concerned about his stock price, real estate, and getting his own way. Will bribe anyone or anything for any reason. Loves his wife dearly (must have great chemistry). Real-life husband and wife duos encouraged. Baritone.

MRS. HOWELL: To play 60+. Rich society matron. Concerned with the social season and maintaining proper decorum on the island. Flighty and ditzy, but very kind and maternal. Loves her husband dearly (must have great chemistry). Real-life husband and wife duos encouraged. Mezzo-soprano.

Email for an appointment. Prepare approx 1 minute of a Broadway song appropriate for the character you’re auditioning for. Unfortuantely, we will not have an accompanist, so be prepared to sing a cappella. Be ready to stay and read.

Performances are July 10 and 11 at Lansdale Center for the Performing Arts. Two mandatory daytime dress rehearsals on July 8 and 9. Please audition only if you can make arrangements to be at these dress rehearsals.

Tip: watch a few episodes of the original series (particularly Season 1) before auditioning, as it’s very important to personify the essence of the original actors and characters. We’ll notice! Full episodes are online at www.thewb.com.
