Seeking male/female talent for “We’re Here, We’re Queer… It’s Complicated!” (Tampa, FL)
Casting Call Details:
Announcing auditions for an upcoming Job-Side project with Jobsite Theater (Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts) entitled We’re Here, We’re Queer… It’s Complicated! written and directed by Tampa Bay area playwright Edward Perry.
Auditions will be held by appointment on Monday, December 12th and Tuesday, December 13th from 7-9pm. They are tentatively scheduled to be held at the Straz Center, but you will receive both your time and location confirmation via email once finalized. Please submit an electronic version of your headshot/resume, along with two (2) time/day preferences. Callbacks will be held later that same week.
There are available roles for 3 men and 3 women who will each portray multiple rolls of a wide range of characters (see breakdown below). Please prepare one monologue (1-2 minutes) of your choosing that best features your talent. Please bring two headshots with your resume stapled back to back.
All actors will be paid a stipend along with possible profit sharing at the conclusion of the production. No Equity contracts are available for this production.
Rehearsal dates will be throughout the month of January 2012 (specific dates/times TBD). Performances are scheduled for February 8-12, 2012 at the Shimberg Playhouse.
BREAKDOWN:
We’re Here, We’re Queer… It’s Complicated! A Night of GLBTQ Theater is a revue of dramatic and comedic scenes and monologues focusing on the complications of life and challenges for the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered/Questioning community.
MAN 1 (Tim/Tony/Prof. Lowenstein): reads early-mid 30’s, nerdy, wholesome, naïve
MAN 2 (Sam/Ethan): reads mid-late 30’s, confident, compassionate, direct
MAN 3 (Charlie/Harry/Valerie): reads late 30’s – early 40’s, sincere, emotionally strong, and hopeful. This actor will be required to dress in drag to perform a Transgendered character with honesty and finesse.
WOMAN 1 (Ann/Leisl/Lisa/Nora): reads early-mid 30’s, nerdy, smart, well-educated, tough and caring (think Rachel Maddow)
WOMAN 2 (Kelly/Deidra/Cheyanne/Mrs. Lowenstein): reads late 30’s – early 40’s, manic, loud, abrasive, oblivious to other’s feelings.
WOMAN 3 (Linda/Dawn/Paige): reads mid-late 30’s, very diverse, comedic timing essential, runs the gamut from a close-minded zealot to a well-mannered empowered female.
