STORYLINE: The action of the play takes place in the large communal room of Garnet Lodge, a beach-front guesthouse in a small port town on the South African West Coast.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
THAMI
Early 30s, Black, South African. Temporary manager of the guest lodge. Good natured and open. Striving to do what he can for his impoverished family. A festering anger rides just beneath the surface.
JOHAN
Mid 30s, early 40s. White, South African. Former cop who did prison time, now a diamond diver suffering from the bends. Chronic alcoholic. Bitter and volatile, high kinetic energy.
SMITH
Mid 60s. White, South African. Investment banker forced into early retirement. Recent widower. Smart. Polite. Erudite. He is searching for something. He harbors deep resentment and melancholy.
