Free Casting Calls and Auditions

Producer Emily Bernhard announces an open casting call for the new feature film, Rufus Rex. The film is the third feature helmed by Maine native and MovieMaker Magazine Publisher Tim Rhys; it will begin shooting in the Rockland area next month.

Rufus Rex is the coming-of-age story of a lonely 14-year-old boy from an oddball family who falls in love with the beautiful foreign exchange student living at his house. Caught between being true to himself and transforming himself into the man he believes his new friend wants him to be, Rufus goes on an unforgettable journey of self discovery.

Open casting calls will be held beginning this Saturday. The producers are looking to cast several speaking roles and extras (nonpaid). Bring a headshot or recent snapshot along with a resume. Your height, sizes, eye color, hair color, acting projects, training, and contact information should be included.

Seeking males and females ages 12-21, (no one under age 12 will be read), a male in his late 20’s, and males and females in their 40’s to 70’s. Actors with genuine Maine accents are encouraged! One role requires a woman in her late 70’s who is able to speak with a genuine Italian accent. Also casting for a chow dog, who is able to come when called, and bark on command. Please send photos only-dogs will not be seen during call.

Casting calls will be held in Rockport and Portland. The Rockport casting call takes place on the campus of Maine Media Workshops, at 70 Camden St., in the Soundstage, this Saturday, Sept. 20, from noon-5pm. Callbacks will be the following day, from 10am to 3pm.

The Portland casting call will be held on September 27, from 10am-5pm, at St. Lawrence’s Art Center. Callbacks will be the following day, from 9am-4pm.
