Seeking Portuguese speaking actors for “My Jongo”
WEWE Productions is casting for “My Jongo”, a low budget short film to be shot in HD 24p. Seeking PORTUGUESE speaking actors.
Niara is a Brazilian immigrant who is struggling with the loss of her parents and trying to maintain the cultural identity alive within her small family of women. The family is of a long line of Jongo dancers who practice this unique form of dance and music in a community of people they have created around their Jongo Center (their house). But Niara now refuses to dance, and the family is in danger of falling apart.
Shooting dates are the last two weekends in October, in Washington DC.
Niara: 25-35, black or mulata female, speaks Portuguese and can learn simple dance steps easily. Sad, expressive, corageous.
Marini: 25-35, black or mulata female, speaks Portuguese and can learn simple dance steps easily. Boysturous, outgoing, funny.
Akanni: 25-28, black or mulato male, speaks Portuguese and can learn simple dance steps and sing. Handsome, strong presence but humble.
Bruno: 25-40, any race or nationaliry (knowledge and affinity of Brazilian cultrue preferred but not necessary).
Tia Nana: 45-65, black or mulata female, speaks Portuguese. Motherly/Auntie figure, caring, sweet but strong, a little overweight.
Tina: 10-14, black or mulata female, speaks some or understands Portuguese. Outgoing.
Diva: 20-30, any race or ethnicity, female. Good looking, no lines, small part.
No acting experience necessary.
** We also need about 20 extras to be part of the group/party. And dancers! If interested please realize it will be fun but will also take a lot of work, this is a commitment you are making as we will need you to be there for 1 long day of shooting.
