AU Film students are casting for short films!
On March 18th and 19th, we will be casting for 8 short student films, shot on DV. Descriptions of the films and characters are below as well as information about what day and time each particular casting session will be held. All roles are UNPAID, (Non-union) and we seek actors willing to work for the experience and additional acting credit on their resumes.
All auditions will be held in the McDowell Lounge in McDowell Hall at American University: 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016.
If you are interested in auditioning, please send a resume of your acting experience and headshot to AU.Casting@gmail.com, and indicate which film(s) you are interested in auditioning for. We will only audition actors who reply via email. Please, no “walk-ins”.
For the audition, please come prepared with a short monologue (No longer than 2 - 3 minutes).

“Calculus”
Director: Nathan Brigham
“Calculus” follows a seemingly lost college kid as he decides whether to take his Calculus final or drop the class on the day of the exam. Faced with the inevitability of failing, pressure from his parents, and advice from his peers, the main character must find his own way.
Genre: This film is a dramatic short, but will contain moments of humor from the main character’s simple and dry approach to life.
Characters for Casting:
Richard:
White male, tall, skinny, a runner type in early 20’s (looks younger). Preferably wears glasses. A lost character, bent on short and simple answers, that likes to run.
Classmate Girl:
White female, early 20’s. A bubbly classmate of main character for one scene in the evening.
Ben:
Male, tall, skinny runner type in early 20’s. A runner who gives advice to his fellow teammate (Richard).
Start Date: 3/24 (for rehearsal)
Duration: 2 Days (3/29 and 3/30)

“Resolution” is a mockumentary that follows a young woman in search of her own type of New Year’s Resolution.

Patty Smith:
Female, early to mid 30s. An intelligent woman who thinks outside the box. She currently has a good job, but doesn’t realize that people normally search for better jobs, not worse ones.

Derreck, a traveling account manager, is in town for the biggest negotiation of his life. Unfortunately, Derreck harbors a guilty past that leads him into a destructive lifestyle. Can Nadia, a caring and independent call girl, help Derreck to forgive his past and save his life?
Genre: Drama

Ivan Navenko is stuck in a life he doesn’t want. He hates his job, dislikes his friends and wishes his girlfriend would just go away. He’s afraid to share his true feelings with anyone, until he starts writing them down and sliding them under the door of a woman he’s never even met.
Genre: Drama with some humor
Characters for Casting:
Ivan:
Male, mid- to late-twenties. Ivan is a lost soul who keeps his thoughts and feelings to himself.
Liz:
Female, mid- to late-twenties. Liz is Ivan’s girlfriend. She’s a nice, kind girl at heart who has been driven to shrewishness by Ivan’s behavior.
Anna:
Female, mid- to late-twenties. Anna lives in Ivan’s building. She is smart and compassionate.

Frank Kafferty hates his job, hates his life and hates who he has become. Through his eyes, the world has literally lost its color, its beauty and its charm. Frank tries to find himself by escaping to the great outdoors where a series of intense events lead to his rebirth.
Genre: Experimental

Frank:
Male, late 20s to early 30s, preferably 5′11″+ and wearing a L or XL. Actor should have some outdoor hiking experience and be willing to get wet and muddy. Actor must be willing to be put in claustrophobic situations, work around fire, and should be physically fit enough to carry a heavy hiking bag.

Director: Zia Holder
“Off Off-Broadway” is a coming of age film where a young girl’s dreams of becoming a star on Broadway are insanely tied to her brother’s success on Broadway. When he comes home for the first time in 8 years, she discovers that, not only has her brother embellished his career (thus negating hers), but that she must live her own life and fend for herself in the big bad world.
Genre: Drama

Moon:
Late teens girl on the brink of self-discovery. She is oblivious, wide-eyed, gamine.
Julia:
Late teens girl. Moon’s best friend. Grounded and possibly dorky.
Aku:
30ish male. Moon’s brother. He is energetic yet worldly, free-spirited and very bohemian.
Mrs. Belle:
Older woman. Moon and Aku’s mother. She is a typical suburban mother, but is a little bit run-down/defeated.
