Casting Call Details:
Actors needed for live table read in front of audience and judges for the DC Shorts Film Festival screenplay competition.
The table read is for one of the 5 finalists in the competition.
The following roles required are:
FAROOQ ABBASS (mid 30’s Male)
Farooq has never been outside the Gaza Strip. He is a decent sort, loyal husband and firm but loving father. Losing his first-born son in an Israeli aerial assault changed his world view but not his devotion to family.
MONA ABBASS (mid 20’s, Female)
Mona is Farooq’s young wife. She’s a traditional Arab woman who lives for her husband and children. Openly tactile and not one to question her husband’s authority.
WALID ABBASS (late 20’s, Male)
Farooq’s younger brother, Walid, worships him. An angry oppressed young man. Politicized through circumstance but feels impotent to wreak revenge on the Israelis. Has anger management issues which get him into trouble.
KAMAL ABBASS (7 years old)
A cheeky high energy little boy with a sense of naïve mischief. Has Mummy wrapped around his finger. Idolizes his Daddy, but knows a spanking awaits if he steps out of line.
COLONEL KATZ (50, Male)
Candid, forthright and speaks his mind with military bluntness. Principled and noble yet has Zionist leanings because he lost family in the Holocaust. The army is not a job, it’s a way of life. Devoted family man.
