Open Call for actors for staged reading of Laila Lalami’s “Secret Son” (Seattle, WA)

Open Call for actors to perform in excerpted staged reading of Laila Lalami’s Secret Son, presented by the Seattle Public Library’s Seattle Reads program in partnership with Book-It Repertory Theatre.

Secret Son is the story of Youssef El Mekki, a teenager trapped by poverty in the slums of Morocco, who discovers that his father, who he thought was dead, is actually a wealthy businessman who is alive and well, and living in the same City –Casablanca. After reconciling with his father, Youssef finds doors of opportunity opening to him, but these doors do not remain open for long and Youssef’s fall from grace is painful and protracted, and ends with his recruitment by a fundamentalist group to commit an assassination. Lalami’s story is a complex and powerful portrait of the social and political importance – and tyranny – of belonging.

Book-It seeks Arab/Middle Eastern actors for the following roles:

2. Mother (doubles with Malika) late 30s to mid 40s.
