This story is about Judith York, a crime writer who has lost all inspiration in her work. Crime writing was an outlet to break into Fantasy writing and it just isn’t working out. When someone gives her a tip that the small town of Slyvania has recently experienced the disappearance of three terminally ill persons, she goes to investigate. Following clue after clue left by several oddball characters throughout the town, she stumbles right into the wild and whacky Safari Encampment of Doctor Smithsonian. Battles, kidnappings, theatrical productions, and love ensue as Judith uncovers the mystery behind this whimsical paradise.

Doctor Smithsonian/Darin Filley - Male, 30-40, English accent. A touch of Hemingway in this character would be nice. The Doctor is helming a playground for the terminally ill on a farm out in the boonies. He smokes like a chimney and has a terrible cough. Very proper English with a whimsical charisma. Witty and intelligent. Believes in living life to it’s fullest. Pretends to be Darin Filley, a lecherous, fast talking journalist, who hasn’t washed his hair in days and has frightening teeth.
George - Male, 18-25 (youthful). George is the inside man. He’s an eccentric drama nerd who needs a friend. Works at the local hotel and wears a bell hop costume most of the time. He helps the Doctor lure a crime writer into his exciting world.
Horatio/Aaron Borst/Clown - Male, late 30s and up. Horatio was once a great actor, but has since retired due to a life threatening illness. He spends his days perfecting his craft, entertaining at the Doctor’s safari encampment. Always wears stage makeup. Pretends to be a Clown at one point in order to test the main character. Dance experience and ability to carry a tune a plus.
Renaldi/Victor Reynalds - Male, 40s and up. A great magician who never speaks due to throat cancer. ABLE TO DO MAGIC TRICKS A MUST.
Colonel Van Rykert/Rufus Huxley - Male, 40s and up, English accent. A military man and hunter. Think Colonel Van Pelt from Jumanji, Fowler from Chicken Run, or Grandpa Potts from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Very British regiment. Colonel is suffering from Alzheimer’s and attempts to tell stories of his days as a Legionnaire, but can’t quite remember the stories he starts. Dance experience and ability to carry a tune a plus.
Titania - Female late20s/early 30s, English accent. An opera singer (not required). Frail and weak in an unusual contrast to her powerful singing voice. She comes off as selfish and snotty when in actuality she is just lonely.
Karrington - Male late20s/early 30s. A carpenter/artist. Brooding. Has his heart set on Titania. Makes gift upon gift for her and doesn’t give her any of them. Frustrated at himself and everything around him.
Alex - Male 20s, Cockney accent. One of the Colonel’s men. He’s the more snippety of the two. Dance experience and ability to carry a tune a plus.
Charles - Male 30s, Cockney accent. One of the Colonel’s men. The sweeter and sillier of the two. Dance experience and ability to carry a tune a plus.
Garrett - Male 40s, A jack of all accents and characters. He lives to pretend and play. His band of merry men guise as pirates, vikings, natives and whatever else they please. Dashing.
Sarah - Female 50s/60s. The Doctor’s Bohemian mother. A very tough cookie and a Doctor herself. Wields a BB gun.
Romeo - Male 20s. College kid playing Romeo in a modern version of the play.
Juliet - Female 20s. College kid playing Juliet in a modern version of the play.
Garrett’s Merry Men - Need 5 men of all ages for battle scenes, stage coach robbing, and Pirate schmoozing. <<
