Seattle area dancer/choreographers are invited to participate in a new
production by danceseattle. This is a volunteer position which involves a
weekly rehearsal commitment between July 18 and September 5 (mutually
agreeable weekend time), and tech week commitments during the week of
September 7-12. Performances will take place on September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
and 12:00 p.m. at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle.
Choreographers will run rehearsals and set pieces of original choreography
on student and professional dancers during weekly company rehearsals. Pieces
and music will be assigned/discussed with Artistic Director Anna James
Percival. Choreographers should attend the student audition from noon to 2
p.m. on the same day and select the dancers for their pieces. Dance styles
incorporated in this production will jazz, modern, ballet, contemporary,
lyrical, theatrical, and funk. Music will be Sergey Prokofiev’s Peter and
the Wolf along with contemporary music selections.
Choreographers will be paid a small stipend (between $50 and $100) for the
production, and will also receive credit in the program and company website,
video and images for portfolio use, and references.
danceseattle, a registered non-profit organization, was founded in 2005 by
artistic director Anna James Percival, and remains a vehicle for student and
professional performers and choreographer to showcase original work through
innovative contemporary productions. danceseattle’ s mission is to make dance
accessible and fun, to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about
creative communication through movement, to promote health in body and in
mind, to collaborate with artists of various mediums in developing new
works, and to share the joy of movement with our community – fostering
appreciation and support of dance and art.
