She’s a cross between a commanding officer & den mother. SMITTY (early 30’s) An Army nurse. Doc’s right hand and second-in- command. Cool, competent, thorough. She’s under a lot of stress, but keeps a lid on it. She relaxes only around Doc, and Flo. FLO HARRIS (early 30’s) An Army nurse. A farm-girl from Montana, Flo personifies the “home and family” values so prevalent during this era. Slow to speak and act, she is a bit of a philosopher in her own way. PAT CONLIN (28-33) A volunteer. Fiery and quick-tempered, Pat is the first one to take offence or pick a fight. Her swagger and posturing cover her insecurities, and underneath her braggadocio is a genuine, caring person. GRACE LAMBERT (30’s) A volunteer. A well-formed & attractive girl, a former Burlesque performer, but not a bimbo. Grace has intelligence & a dry wit. HELEN DOMERET (28-33) A volunteer. Tall and statuesque, Helen carries herself like a model. Her thoughts continually run to men. NYDIA JOYCE (20’s) A cute, literal-minded Southern Belle. She is totally clueless, and “listens late”. SUSAN WEST & (18-20) Volunteers. Sisters, from England. Susan, an Art student, is the elder, and very ANDRA WEST protective of the younger, more fragile Andra. Andra, a Music student, however, surprises everyone with her courage and bravery. (English accents required) CONSTANCE MARKS (25-30) A volunteer. A Dresden-doll of a girl, beautifully turned out, delicate, and a bit (CONNIE) squeamish. Gives the impression that she is a bit too fragile for the work ahead. STEPHANY POLDEN (30’s) A volunteer. A big girl, strong and sturdy, a former machine operator in a cannery. “Steve” carries herself like a man, and is very protective of Connie. SADIE (45-55) The company cook..
