The Breakthrough Theatre of Winter Park will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”, a comedy by Bert V. Royal. Directed by Michael Colavolpe
This is a non-Equity production.
DOG SEES GOD re-imagines the beloved “Peanuts” characters as high school seniors.
SYNOPSIS: When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that is both haunting and hopeful.
Seeking 4 males and 4 females between the ages of 18-30 and/or convincing as high school seniors.
Audition Dates:

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

Performance Dates:
February 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 (Thursday-Sunday performances). Rehearsals will begin in January.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
* CB – He is intensely saddened over the death of his dog and searches for meaning in his life through his friends.
* CB’s Sister – Quirky, changes philosophies often, “goth” for the duration of the play. Eccentric performance artist at heart
* Van – Always the philosopher in childhood, is now a pothead with a worldview to match. Easygoing and laid back is an understatement with Van.
* Matt – The jock. Handsome, popular, cocky – he’s sex-obsessed, short-tempered, germophobic, and homophobic.
* Beethoven – The school outcast. A sensitive, skeptical musician. An actor who can play the piano is ideally preferred, though not necessary.
* Tricia – Popular, attractive, loud mouthed, superficial. Enjoys boys, drugs, and drinking. Marcy’s BFF.
* Marcy – Popular, Needs to be liked. Enjoys boys, drugs, and drinking. Tricia’s BFF.
* Van’s Sister – An institutionalized pyromaniac. Brash, honest, and forthright, she keeps it real and give CB advice.
