Adapted from the classic Ernst Lubitsch film. Backstage comedy about a troupe of actors in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. Through a madcap series of misunderstandings, misrepresentations and intentional subterfuge, the magic of theatre triumphs over the evils of the Third Reich.

Casting Director’s note: “We will ONLY be auditioning for the role of Grunberg; actors will NOT be seen for other roles. Also, please do not waste your time or ours if you played the instrument 20 years ago and have not picked it up since. We need a skilled player. If we are not able to see you within the allotted time, please leave your picture and resume. It will be reviewed.”
Grunberg: Man, 40 – 60. Austrian Jewish émigré to Poland. Character actor in the troupe. Rueful, soulful, intellectual, witty. Lots of heart and integrity. ACTOR MUST PLAY VIOLIN/FIDDLE or ACCORDION.

Please be prepared to play a short piece of your choice. Instruments will be provided, or you may bring your own. A brief scene from the script will be provided for you to read. (No accent necessary.)
