The Gallery Players is seeking submissions for upcoming AEA showcase production of “A Tuna Christmas”

The Gallery Players, Brooklyn’s premier off-off Broadway theater in it’s 42nd season is seeking submissions for upcoming AEA showcase (approval pending) production of A TUNA CHRISTMAS by Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams. Director, Andrew K. Russell; Producer, Robin Mishik-Jett/ The Gallery Players.

A TUNA CHRISTMAS is a hysterical show about the citizens of Texas’s third smallest town, Tuna, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. It’s 24 hours before Christmas and all hell is about to break loose as these eccentric characters attempt to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster prone Little Theatre production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom. This is small town Texas at its funniest!

Equity Showcase, approval pending

For audition: please prepare two contrasting comedic monologues, no more than 5-minutes total. This show calls for only two male actors to play over 20 roles and this is accomplished mostly through pantomime and strong characterization, with a little help from the props and costume department. The creative team will need to see that you are able to play many different characters and that you are willing to explore, try new things, improvise and have fun on stage.

We are seeking highly transformational male comedic actors to play multiple characters, crossing gender and social status. Extremely physical production that requires acting that blends honesty, heart, imagination and fun. Please come prepared with two contrasting comedic monologues that reflect the above-mentioned skills. Actors are encouraged to read the script before auditioning and are welcome to present material from the play, although that isn’t essential.

Seeking: Two Men
Actor 1: Roles include Thurston Wheelis, part of a popular local announcing team at radio station OKKK, Bertha, a middle-aged housewife struggling to have a happy family Christmas, Sheriff Givens, whose authority is always undermined, and Inita Goodwin, a waitress at the Tastee-Kreme. A little extra girth is appreciated. Must be capable of strong, straight-forward, no-nonsense comedic style. Male, plays 20’s to 40’s.

Actor 2: Roles include Arles Struvie, a disco jockey at radio station OKKK, Jody Bumiller, the daughter of Bertha Bumiller who is madly in love with the Little Theater drama director, Vera Carp, the town snob and acting leader of the Smut-Snatchers of the New Order and Didi Snavely, owner of a used weapons shop. Skinny and wiry actor is preferable. Male, plays 20’s to 40’s.
