Rizzo: Leader of the Pink Ladies. Tough, sarcastic, very sexy in a brunette way. The girl everyone is intimidated by and secretly wants to be. Major rich belt voice and a great sense of humor.

Frenchy: Quirky, funny and kind, she drops out of high school to become a beautician. Must sing and move well, and should have a distinctive character voice. Actress must be under 5’3”.

Patty: All-American cheerleader type. All sugar on the outside, and talks about you as soon as your back is turned. Confident and catty. Will understudy Sandy, so must be an excellent singer and very pretty.

Male roles (all should play in their teens):
Danny: Leader of the T-Birds. Sexy, with easygoing charm and charisma. Coolest guy in school. Strong rock ‘n’ roll tenor with falsetto. Must move well. Should be 5’10” or taller, with dark good looks.

Kenickie: Danny’s best friend and second-in-command of the T-Birds. A little older than the rest of boys, as he’s had to stay back once or twice before. Tough, sarcastic. Classic bad boy looks. A perfect match for Rizzo. Baritone. Must move well. Should be 5’10” or taller.

Doody: Youngest of the boys; he looks up to the other guys like heroes. Boyish, he lacks confidence in the girl department. Major pop tenor to an A (full voice) with strong falsetto to E; sings “Those Magic Changes”. Must move well. Should be 5’8” or shorter.

Roger: The clown of the T-Birds; he’ll do anything for a laugh. Jan’s boyfriend. High pop tenor; sings “Mooning”. Must move well. Must be physically large (5’10 or taller and heavyset).

Sonny: Italian. A bit raunchy, with a dirty mind but a heart of gold. Always running his mouth and getting into trouble. Needs to be a real comedian. Must sing and move very well. Actor must be under 5’9” and have a distinctively Italian or ethnic look.

Eugene: The classic nerd of the school. Preppy, straight-A student. Good comic. Tall and lanky. Must move and sing well.

Vince Fontaine: Man, late 30s – late 40s. Slick-talking disc jockey. Good-looking, oily and a bit of a slimeball. Enjoys getting to meet high school girls a little too much. Rock ‘n’ roll baritone; sings “Hand Jive.” Must be an experienced comic with a fun, engaging personality. Improv skills a plus, as he will “warm up” the audience in a mostly improvised pre-show.

Teen Angel: Man, mid 20s – mid 30s. Gorgeous embodiment of Frenchy’s fantasy, a la Pat Boone. Tenor with falsetto extension.
