A new comedy series being featured on the world wide web
Surreal Life Productions is currently seeking two attractive twenty-something actresses (Asian or of Asian descent) with some experience using improvisational techniques.
“Occidentally on Purpose” is a satire about cultural stereotyping, assimilation and the similarities and differences between the east and west that conspire to produce culture shock.
Ya-ching considers herself a New Yorker since she’s been living in NYC attending college for the past three years. Her older sister, Wei-lan, much more provincial and conservative by nature, has overshadowed her since they were kids. Now that Wei-lan is making her first visit to the United States, Ya-ching expects to finally be treated as an equal because of her “vast” experience in the big city. When Wei-lan immediately begins treating her like an inferior, Ya-ching plans to get even by giving her sister the worst possible advice about how to “fit in” in America. The series follows their experiences in and around the city.
We are looking for actresses with knowledge of the subject matter. The tentative country the girls are from is China, but this isn’t set in stone.
The actresses we choose for each of the roles will be guided through various scenarios to incorporate improvisation into the scriptwriting process.
The tentative shooting schedule for “Occidentally on Purpose” will be 2 days a week, for about 6 weeks resulting in six pilot webisodes.
