Seeking NYC actors for a musical “Max and Ruby”
MAX AND RUBY – THEATREWORKS/ USA TOUR
This is a musical based on the popular children’s’ book series, Max and Ruby. ALL CHARACTERS MUST SING. ALL CHARACTERS (EXCEPT MAX) MUST BE ABLE TO CARRY TIGHT HARMONIES.
CASTING:
RUBY
(Belter with soprano mix, able to do high F and G (1 1/2 octaves above middle C)) 20-something actress to play a self-assured, responsible, seven-year-old girl. The actress must be able to find an endearing humor in Ruby’s earnestness, and convey patience and love toward her often-maddening little brother. MUST BE 4-10 to 5-2
MAX
20-something actor to play Ruby’s three-and-a- half-year- old brother. Stubborn, but not “bratty” so much as resolute. Max says little, so actor must be capable of conveying a lot with facial expressions. Must possess excellent comic timing, and a facility with deadpan and physical humor. Max should be at least a bit shorter than Ruby. MUST BE 5-4 to 5-6
THE FOUR CHORUS MEMBERS must be energetic, versatile (plenty of quick costume/character changes), strong movement background (playing toys, animals, etc…) with an innate sense of comedy. Puppetry experience is welcome. For THREE CHORUS GIRLS we need TWO Sopranos, good belt, good mix, able to do high F and G, 1 1/2 octaves above middle C, and ONE warm alto, able to do F and G below middle C. For CHORUS GUY we need a Bari-tenor able to do F and G, 4th and 5th above middle C.
LOUISE
20-30 something actress to play a variety of parts, including Ruby’s friend and fellow Bunny Scout Louise. Louise is a really straight arrow. Would prefer someone ethnic.
VALERIE
20-30 something actress to play a variety of parts, including Ruby’s friend and fellow Bunny Scout Valerie.
GRANDMA/LOBSTER BALLADEER
20-30 something actress to play a variety of parts, including a cowboy lobster balladeer and Max and Ruby’s Grandma.
ALIEN GREEN GORILLA
(Bari-tenor able to do F and G-4th and 5th above middle C) 20-30 something actor to play a variety of parts, including a green alien gorilla singing a cowboy song and a Bunny Scout. Cross-dressing a possibility.
All actors will be signed on as assistant stage managers.
EQUITY TYA TIER 2 CONTRACT:
$460 WEEKLY/ $55 PER DIEM
