Roundabout Theatre Company, at the American Airlines Theatre NYC
Equity LORT A+, $1,207/week minimum
Seeking:
George Tesman:
30s. A scholar. Loves Hedda, but his work and status mean everything to him; very competitive. Very concerned with gaining the approval of others. Much happier to live by the norms than outside them; complacent, but not unmotivated when it comes to his career.
Eilert Lovborg:
30s. A recovering alcoholic. An old friend of Hedda and Tesman’s academic rival. Achieves critical success with his recent work and becomes stiff competition for the professorship Tesman is counting on winning. Working on a sequel to his novel, which he considers his masterpiece. Inspired and cerebral.
Judge Brack:
Male, 40s-60. A friend of Tesman and Hedda. The source of much new information throughout the play; slightly gossipy. Intellectual and manipulative. Loves Hedda.
Mrs. Thea Elvsted:
Late 20s – early 30s. Extremely devoted and loyal to Lovborg. Timid, weak, and docile; a complete foil to Hedda. Worried that Lovborg’s return to town will drive him back to alcoholism; turns to Hedda for advice.
Miss Juliana Tesman:
Late 50s - 60s. Tesman’s aunt; raised him after his parents died; a caring soul. Happy for Tesman, but concerned that he might not be able to support Hedda’s lifestyle. May be forced to move in with Tesman and Hedda when her companion dies, despite Hedda’s pointed displeasure with this arrangement.
Berta:
40s. The Tesmans’ maid. Very devoted, a good worker, eager to please. A little frenzied; worried about keeping up with the changes Hedda’s arrival will bring to the household.
