Free Casting Calls and Auditions

Casting this NYU student television drama pilot entitled, ‘Night Walks.’ The main characters are Jonathan and Mascha, two misfit teenagers in the 11th grade, who venture at night to walk through the alley-ways, woods, and backyards of the city they live in. On their way they encounter mysteries and secrets involving the other members of the town. This includes their teacher Zachary, and his boyfriend Leo, who is a famous singer. This series begins when on this particular night walk, Jonathan and Mascha encounter a dead body.
Auditions will be held by appointment only in late February and early March in the NYU area. Filming will take place on location in NJ or NY on the weekends of March 29-April 1 and April 4-April 7.
Food will be provided; all actors will appear in the show’s credits and will receive a copy of the finished show.
For union actors a SAG student signatory agreement will be obtained.

1. Male / 16-18 yrs. / White.
JONATHAN – 17-ish, high school junior. Fragile (bad health), tall, skinny and clumsy. Jewish, shy, innocent face, frightened eyes. Smart and talented in studies and piano playing but slacks off in order to follow the adventures of Mascha, his best friend who he’s in love with secretly. Has crazy overprotective parents. Has a much suppressed darker side.

2. Female / 16-18 yrs. / White.
MASCHA – 17, high school junior. Beautiful and captivating with pale blue eyes. Russian. Possibly a slight accent. Black hair (or dyed black), pale complexion and athletic build. A free-spirited classmate of Jonathan. Warm loving family that may be involved with mafia. She hates almost everyone in school, and everyone in general. She despises crowds and herds and people who act without conviction and deliberation.

3. Male / 30-35 yrs. / Any Ethnicity.
LEO – Early 30’s. He is very attractive and takes very good care of himself. Good looking on verge of egocentric. Famous and celebrated pop/rock singer. Troubled. A workaholic, he tends to put his job ahead of everything, including his secret homosexual relationship with Zachary which he cannot really define. He is native to area, and has unknown reasons to remain here. Has been getting threatening phone calls.

4. Male / 30-35 yrs. / White.
ZACHARY – Early 30’s. Glasses. Straight hair, organized. Kind of serious looking. Almost like a banker type in a better person’s outfit (if that makes any sense). Leo’s boyfriend, or so he’d like to think. He doesn’t understand the intensity and fathoms of his feelings for Leo and his emotional state in general. He occasionally gets attacks of extreme depression that he would rather dismiss as “episodes.” These don’t coincide well with his profession – high school teacher (Jonathan and Mascha’s).

5. Male / 30-35 yrs. / Any Ethnicity.
BOB – Early 30’s and well taken care of. Exercises and is pumped up. Squarish built. He is the neighborhood cop, who seems to be a lovely guy who is out there to help everybody. He used to be Leo’s classmate in high school. He is actually very bitter and full of envy. He has a lot of interest in Ophelia and remembers her glory days.

6. Female / 30-39 yrs. / Asian.
HERMINIA – 30’s. Filipino. Speaks English with a Filipino accent. Beady eyes. Innocent and sad. A helper to Mrs. Resha who suffers quite a miserable life. Herminia left the Philippines and her family behind in order to find a better future for herself and try to support her family from afar only to end up as a modern day slave to an abnormally mean old lady who treats her badly. As an escape, she develops a deep and all consuming infatuation with Leo, after learning all of his songs. She also stalks him and believes they are meant to be together.

7. Female / 61+ yrs. / White.
MRS. ROSALINDE RESHA – An old lady, Jewish. Intense wrinkles or droopy cheeks. Serious and frightening. Look of knowledge beyond what she reveals. She is mad at the world and everyone living in it. She is very strange and mysterious, and doesn’t let anybody in, not that anybody tries. She keeps an impressive collection of missing children’s pictures from the past 20 years or so. She also stays in her bedroom a lot, looking out to the view of the neighborhood.

8. Female / 30-35 yrs. / White.
OPHELIA JUNIPER – Early 30’s. Blonde. A former beauty queen/model who used to be in the center of everything in her day. Nowadays, as she is succumbing to psychosis, she is a neurotic, worried mother to a sickly boy. Everything seems scary, burdensome and complicated to her. People tend to think she’s lost her mind or rather just pity her for the state that she’s in.

9. Male / 8-12 yrs. / White.
YOUNG BOY – looks 8-10 years old. Pale white boy. Skin almost see through, pale eyes. Ophelia’s son. Suffers rare condition of allergy to UV rays, hence can never be outside in the sun and lives during the night. Innocent and good. Doesn’t speak often.
