Seeking performers for the fourth round of the hit stage show “Expressing Motherhood”
Producers are currently seeking performers for the fourth round of the hit stage show “Expressing Motherhood”, which will mark the first time the show has run in Manhattan. Mothers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to submit an autobiographical piece for consideration.
Performers are invited to share personal stories and thoughts about motherhood through original readings, stand-up routines, songs, monologues and more. Producers are seeking performances that are between two to eight minutes in length, ranging from funny to poignant and everything in between.
Stay-at-home moms turned stage producers Lindsay Kavet and Jessica Cribbs dreamed up the concept for “Expressing Motherhood” during their children’s naptimes. “We both came from the entertainment industry, and missed having that outlet for new ideas,” said
Cribbs. The play was conceived as a way for mothers to express the joys and sorrows of motherhood and interact with others going through similar experiences. “People think that your need to be creative stops after you have a child,’ says Kavet. “We think moms have just as much need as anyone to express themselves
creatively.”
The feedback from their first Los Angeles show in June 2008 led to a second, sold-out round of shows in January 2009. Performances are scheduled for August 2009 in Los Angeles and September 2009 in New York City.
