New York Casting Calls: “Sweet Charity” Auditions

Sweet Charity tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a down-on-her-luck dance hall hostess who works at the seedy Fandango ballroom. She simply longs to find love. When she does, it’s in all the wrong places. This is her search for Mr. Right. Could it be the international movie star, Vittorio Vidal, with whom Charity spends one romantic evening? Or the claustrophobic accountant, Oscar, with whom she gets stuck in an elevator? Or, does the real answer to her happiness lay somewhere inside her?

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Sweet Charity is a musical comedy with an edge/dark side. It uses New York City as its setting. This is New York City in the late 60’s, a gritty New York. The location is essentially another character in the show.

All performers must move well.

Casting:

Charity Hope Valentine – Late 20’s – Early 30’s, a dance hall hostess with a very big heart. Very unlucky in love and hopes to someday find it. The audience must relate to her, feel sorry for her and root for her.

Helene – mid 30’s, Charity’s friend, a dancer at the Fandango Ballroom. Sassy and perhaps a little motherly.

Nickie – mid 30’s, Charity’s friend, a dancer at the Fandango Ballroom. Sassy, sexy and will tell you how it is.

Vittorio Vidal – 40’s, Suave, Italian movie star, sweeps Charity off her feet. Must have Italian accent.

Oscar Lindquist – 30’s, A very gentle man who is the exact opposite of the typical men in Charity’s life. Very nervous by nature, Charity falls for Oscar.

Herman – 40’s – 50’s, Owner of the Fandango Ballroom, tough on the outside but really soft on the inside.

Urusla March – 30’s, Vittorio’s stunning yet dramatic girl friend.
