At a small liberal arts college, Professor Ron Smith is an African-American Studies expert of notorious behavior and diminishing renown. Maurice, his graduate assistant, does his mentors work while propping up Smith’s flagging spirits. This delicate balance is upset when the professor invites Emily, an undergraduate student to his office in the waning days of the semester. Their meeting spurs a chain reaction of revelation and betrayal that spirals beyond anyone’s control.
CASTING: EMILY - Female, Multi-Ethnic, early 20s. (Lead) Fiercely independent, Emily conceals her insecurity and vulnerability behind a brash confidence and intelligence; when exposed, she reacts explosively. She is relatively inexperienced, still learning what power her sexuality gives her over men. Emily’s angry when placed in situations over which she has no control—and in this story, that will invariably be the case. Ignorant of her father’s African-American identity, she has conducted her life for 19 years as a white person—plausibly. SAG/NON-SAG
The roles of Professor Smith and Maurice have been cast.
NOTE: Film dates are currently scheduled for May 3, 4, 10, and 11 (2008) in New York City; and from June 9-16 (2008) in Gambier, Ohio. Travel, meals, and single room housing provided during the Ohio shoot.
