Casting call for “The Oath” by Jacqueline Goldfinger
MTWorks presents “The Oath” by Jacqueline Goldfinger, directed by Cristina Alicea at the Arclight Theater April 23-May 10th, 2009.
In 1933, droughts of Biblical proportions plague America, President Franklin Delano Rooseveltis inaugurated, Baby Face starring Barbara Stanwyck is censored and released, the Reichstag burns, the Great Depression drags on.
“The Oath” is a Southern Gothic tragedy set in the midst of the Great Depression. A wandering
preacher is ensnared in the political and social games of a rural Southern town ruled with a macabre sense of justice by two rival families.
BREAKDOWNS:
JOSHUA: 30s, male, itinerant inspirational/ spiritual leader. Good intentioned, Meek and insecure. As the play progresses becomes a strong but misled leader.
DECK: 40s, female, Ophelia’s maid
OPHELIA: 30s, female, the woman in charge. Strong-willed but charming.
CEBE: 20s, female, Ophelia’s sister, promiscuous, foul-mouthed and rude. But has a pure heart
LECROIX: 40s, female, desperately wants to be the woman in charge
LADY: Versatile dramatic character actress who can transform into multiple character with a flexible age range.
We are looking for a slight Southern accent. Veer away from Scarlett O’Hara; think Mary Louise Parker and Mary Stuart Masterson in “Fried Green Tomatoes.”
Rehearsals will be primarily evenings on the weekdays and during the days on the weekends.
