“Kid Can Dream”, SAG SHORT FILM AGREEMENT PLUS 10%
KID CAN DREAM tells the story of JIMI who lives in a tenement in Brooklyn,
NY with his father CES, who is a disabled Iraqi war veteran, recently
discharged and now paralyzed from the waist down. One day, when Jimi learns
of a mysterious Medicine Man who cured paralysis with medicine derived from
a rare plant. JIMI and his friend, DEMETRIUS, embark on a journey far from
home – deep into the heart of the Onondaga Nation, a bleak and mysterious
Native American land in hopes they’ll find the plant that might be able to
repair nerve damage in CES’ back and in time could give him another chance
to walk.
NOTE: We encourage the submission of actors with an ambulatory disability.
CES
(30-40s) African American; Single parent, JIMI’S dad; Iraqi veteran
paralyzed from waist down; Resigned to living life under current misfortunes
but remains high spirited/quick witted nonetheless mixed with an edge.
JOYCE
Native American (14-21), beautiful, vibrant, independent, small town girl
with big dreams.
KILLJOY
MALE, Native American (40-65), aloof and focused, when he speaks people
listen.
DR. BROOKS
MALE, African American (50s), Slightly overweight medical doctor; Professor
type, Strong but sympathetic voice, Understanding of patients but short of
time
