Casting call for new musical “Buddy’s Tavern Book”
The Spirit of Broadway Theater, located in Norwich, CT is currently casting AEA and non-AEA actors/actresses for their upcoming production of the new musical, Buddy’s Tavern Book by Raymond De Felitta, Music by Kim Oler, Lyrics by Alison Hubbard. The production runs May 13 – June 14, 2009. (The Spirit of Broadway Theater operates with a Special Appearance Agreement with AEA)
The Spirit of Broadway Theater is a professional, innovative and intimate 74-seat three-quarters thrust, black box theater. All roles are paid. Housing provided. Roles being cast are:
ESTELLE VISALO (Italian-American housewife, early thirties) (Mezzo)
CHIP DI PALMA (Italian-American working class, thirties) SALESCLERK 2 (Tenor/baritone)
MARIE VACCO, GLORIA, MISS DIMINJUK (all slightly older—fifties) (Character alto)
THE BARKEEP (African American man, early fifties) (Low baritone)
THE STORY: 1956. Staten Island, New York. Buddy buys a rundown two family house, intending to convert it into a bar where he can sing for his customers. His wife, Estelle, is furious. Things get worse for Buddy when a couple of Irish tenants who are living in the house refuse to vacate. When the woman, Mary, gives birth, she is abandoned by her husband thus placing Buddy in an uncomfortable position. As an odd friendship begins to blossom, Buddy is forced to make the hardest choice of his life. This tender new musical comedy about love, and tolerance is one in which two people discover that happily ever after can come from the most unlikely places.
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Monday, April 27, 2009 in Norwich, CT Performances are Wednesday – Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm All rehearsals will be held at The Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich, CT.
