Babes in Toyland, Non-equity Theater Auditions, New York
BABES IN TOYLAND, Victor Herbert’s classic operetta (featuring “March of the Toys,” and “Toyland”) receives an update with book and lyrics by Craig Shemin. Presented by The Little Orchestra Society as part of its Happy Concerts for Young People series for children ages 6 to 12, the piece will be performed at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and at the Tilles Center in Greenvale, Long Island, accompanied by a full orchestra.

Seeking:
Barnaby: mid 30s-50s, baritone, real estate magnate, a great salesman, ruthlessly acquisitive, clever, charismatic and charming, strong comedic ability, LEAD;
Mrs. Barnaby: mid 30s-50s, mezzo, Barnaby’s wife, eccentric, at first seems as greedy as Barnaby, later revealing a more human side, strong comedic ability, LEAD;
Jenny: 18+ to play young teen, soprano, spoiled, witty, initially self-centered but later becomes more vulnerable, strong comedic ability, LEAD;
The Toymaker: 40s or older, lovable, absent-minded, perfectionist, eccentric, strong comedic ability, LEAD;
The Wrenchman: a male dancer in his 20’s or 30’s with strong eccentric movement to portray a tall, ruthless robot-like modern toy, FEATURED ROLE
The Knight: operatic tenor in his 20’s or 30’s, leading man type, dynamic and energetic, with a comic flair, must be able to sing a high C, FEATURED ROLE
Chorus: men and women to portray various iconic toys, need all vocal ranges, must possess a sense of humor and dramatic flair, must move well. Also seeking some excellent male and female dancers who sing well with strong dance technique (acro, pointe, and unique dance skills preferred).
Rehearsals in Manhattan from November 19-24; Nov. 29-Dec 4, and Dec. 17-18. Performances on December 5 at the Tilles Center and December 19 at Avery Fisher Hall. Performers will receive an honorarium for the project.
