Casting call: The Secret Friend 35mm short film (shooting early to mid-March in NYC)
SAG and non-SAG talent are welcome to submit.
There is no pay, but credit, meals and copy will be provided.
Anna (Lead) – Old white woman in her 70s++. She is middle class but old fashioned. She is lonely, vulnerable and a bit helpless.
Julie – White female in her 40s. Middle class housewife. She is the typical good hearted/kind neighbor. She is Anna’s only friend.
Old Man – Old man 80++. Any race. Walks with a bit of a limp and uses a cane.
Phone Company Manager – Any Race, possibly black male in his 30-40s. He is the typical company man. He is unhelpful and sometimes condescending. He does not have any compassion for Anna’s problem. “Could care less” attitude.
The Secret Friend tells the story of a reclusive elderly widow lives in quiet desperation until she receives a silent stranger call. Annaâ€™s restless daily routines are given urgency as she finds herself waiting for her phone to ring each afternoon at 5:30. A mysterious friendship evolves as the strangerâ€™s silence compels Anna to share her lifeâ€™s experiences with starling honesty. Empty days are given new hope, but when the calls abruptly end thereâ€™s only one thing Anna can do to fill the unbearable void.
Auditions will be held Friday January 30th and Saturday 31st in midtown, by appointment only.
