Synopsis:
Hispaniolove is a contemporary version of Romeo and Juliet, where the family feud is the inequalities between Haiti and Dominican Republic. It tackles the socio-political struggles of Haitians and their bittersweet relationship with sister island Dominican Republic, neighbors but worlds apart.
Character BIOS
[Pouchon] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
Son of Liberis. A handsome and intelligent young man who is passionate about his family and Haitian culture. He lives in the middle of a violent feud between Haiti and Dominican Republic. He falls in love with Marielis, the Dominican daughter of a wealthy, anti-Haitian family. Leading role, Haitian background and/or speak Creole.
[Marielis] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 20-25]
The daughter of Tukillu and Lady Tukillu, wealthy Dominican family. A beautiful young woman, Juliet’s parents arrange a marriage with Julio but she falls in love with Pouchon, the son of her family’s great enemy. Leading role, Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Azibe] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
A young minister, cousin to Pouchon and friend of Marielis. Kind, civic-minded, and always ready with a plan to defuse the tension between both sides. Leading role, Haitian background and/or speak Creole.
[Nanny] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 30-35]
Marielis’s nurse, the woman who cared for Marielis her entire life. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Natacha] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 17]
Pouchon’s sister. Struggles with self-esteem issues and Pouchon’s romantic relationship with Marielis. Haitian background and/or speak Creole.
[Jenita] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 18]
Natacha’s neighbor and close. Very outspoken, bold, witty and at times strange. Haitian background and/or speak Creole.
[Tito] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
A Tukillu, Marielis’ cousin on her mother’s side. Vain, fashionable, aggressive, violent, and quick to engage in confrontations against Haitians, especially the Liberis’ family. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Ricky] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
A servant of the house of Tukillu, who is Tito’s sidekick and hates the Liberis’. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Liberis] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 40-45]
Pouchon’s dad, single parent, blue collar worker and one of Tukillu’s servant. Though he’s not fond of the Tukillu’s clan, he swallows his pride to do whatever it takes to feed his family. Strong and bold temperament. Haitian background and speak Creole.

The patriarch of the Tukillu’s family, father of Marielis, husband of lady Tukillu and for unexplained reasons hires an enemy, Liberis, as one of his servants. He truly loves his daughter and seems to think that what is best for her is a “good” match with Julio, the prince of Little Havana. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.

Marielis’ mom, Tukillu’s wife. She is eager to see her daughter marry Julio. She is an ineffectual mother, relying on the Nanny for moral and pragmatic support. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Julio] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
Son of a wealthy family. Deemed Prince of Little Havana and suitor of Marielis most preferred by Tukillu. Dominican background and/or speak Spanish.
[Black] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 20-25]
A childhood friend of Pouchon, part of a Haitian gang and always involved in fights between the Liberis and Tukillus. Haitian background and/or speak Creole.
[Detective Sneech] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 35-40]
Local police chief who is very familiar with the tension between Liberis and the Tukillus. He’s determined to uphold the law and bring an end to the family feud.
7 extras {5 Hispanic females, 2 males (1 black, 1 Hispanic)} needed for a ballroom dance routine. Must be able to dance to merengue, bachata and konpa.
