Seeking actors for a non-union theatre production for new musical “A Woman’s Dilemma”. A portrayal of the romantic dilemmas created when modern-day beliefs of anything goes clash with traditional beliefs. The main characters struggle dramatically, yet survive through life-altering experiences.
NOTE: Lead actors, Aunt Eva, Jamilla, and Travis must sing. Experience singing gospel plus strong dramatic technique and comedic timing are essential. Come prepared to sing 16 bars of gospel song of your choice – acapella.
All actors should be able to travel to Central NJ for auditions, rehearsals, and production run.
Character Breakdown:
Jenny
Lead / Female / African American, Hispanic / 26 – 28 years Description: 28. Single, wants to marry like all her friends. Believes her beau Kevin would be an ideal husband, fears her vow of celibacy will cause Kevin to dump her. Strong singer soloist, vocal style: jazz, modern, and soprano gospel R&B.
Kevin
Lead / Male / African American, Hispanic / 30 – 32 years Description: 30. Charismatic, wealthy lawyer. handsome with split personality. Prides himself on knowing exactly how to seduce any woman and sees Jenny as a challenge to his manhood.
Non Singing Role
Travis
Co-Star / Male / African American, Hispanic / 30 – 32 years. Description: 30. Single man. Jenny’s childhood friend, blue collar. Loves Jenny. Strong singer soloist, vocal style: Contemporary gospel, tenor R&B
Jamilla
Co-Star / Female / African American, Hispanic / 40 – 42 years. Description: 40. Jenny’s older sister. Desperately wants to be married, has deep trust issues, especially of men. Strong singer soloist, vocal style: Jazzy R&B lounge voice, soulful sound.
