Synopsis:

CUP OF JOE is the story of Ben Foster, a young investment broker and Joe Fredericks, the ghost of his friend who haunts the office coffee pot. With Joe’s help, Ben achieves growth via success in his personal and business relationships. Along the way, Ben’s obstacles include: developing a romantic relationship with Carli, the co-worker for whom he pines, avoiding trouble from Lyndon Fogle, his tool-ish supervisor, improving his reputation among his peers, including co-workers Tamara Matthews, Rod Franco, and Bianca Gettis, and impressing Mr. Schwapp, the founder and CEO of Schwapp Investments.

Character Breakdowns:

Series Regulars -
• CARLI THOMAS (early 20’s) – the front desk receptionist at the investment firm where Ben works. Sweet, outgoing, and at times unabashedly geeky. Likes Ben, but doesn’t know what he wants.
• LYNDON FOGLE (30’s – 40’s) – Ben’s toolish supervisor. Humorless, smug, limited in his potential, he focuses his frustrations on Ben & Joe because of the pranks they pull on him. He constantly plots to have Ben fired, to no avail.
• TAMARA MATTHEWS (30’s – 40’s) – Tamara is one of the brokers at Schwapp Invesments. She is smart – very witty, but has little patience for the hijinks that go on at the office. Tamara is physically threatening, and often gets her way by scaring her co-workers (Rod in particular) straight.
• ROD FRANCO (30’s – 40’s) – Hot-shot investment broker, the firm’s top salesman. Very good-looking, but he’s more infatuated with himself than any woman ever could be. Rod is oblivious to almost every joke. He has a tendency to make things more complicated than necessary.

Non-regulars -
• PRIEST – Parental and pious, desperate to get material for the eulogy.

The test pilot for Cup of Joe will be marketed and distributed to advertisers with the intention of funding a full season (10 – 15 episodes). Although we are not offering compensation for the test pilot, cast and crew will be compensated if the series is picked up for production of a season.
A valentine to old-fashioned sitcoms, Cup of Joe owes a debt to workplace comedies like Newsradio and The Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as some of the more outlandish “concept” shows like My Mother the Car. Cup of Joe deliberately plays on conventional sitcom techniques with the idea that many of them will be instinctually recognized by the audience. The show is designed to resemble a multi-camera, half-hour series with a primary single setting: one office with four or five room sets The style of the show is fast-paced, “sitcommy,” with a tongue-in-cheek predictability. The show has a principal cast of eight with various recurring and one-off characters and the occasional room for a special guest actor. The show is set, and will be filmed in Houston, Texas.
