Seeking young actors for a feature film “My Loose Thread”
PROJECT TITLE: MY LOOSE THREAD - FEATURE LENGTH FILM
SYNOPSIS: MY LOOSE THREAD concerns Larry, an emotionally troubled
youngster, who’s hired to kill a fellow student and retrieve his
mysterious notebook. Instead of destroying it however, Larry keeps it
and discovers details of an illicit physical relationship between him
and his younger brother. Based on the internationally acclaimed and
controversial novel by Dennis Cooper, MY LOOSE THREAD disturbs,
haunts, provokes laughter, and shocks. Here, love destroys,
friendships are betrayed, fantasy overtakes reality, and the
inability to communicate sparks cataclysmic violence.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:
LARRY (Lead) Note: BEFORE submitting a client, agents need to verify
with the actor and/or their legal guardian (if they are under 18)
that they are comfortable with the subject matter of this film.
Likewise, actors should NOT submit themselves if they’re
uncomfortable taking artistic risks. This seems obvious, yet a large
number of people suddenly seemed surprised that the script was what
the breakdown explicitly described it as. We would rather give a time
slot to someone who’s going show rather than back out the day of the
audition. Now onto the character… This is an EXPLOSIVE,
BREAKTHROUGH role and a great opportunity for an INTELLIGENT,
CREATIVE, EMOTIONALLY MATURE young actor. Larry’s 16. Caucasian.
Average height and weight. (2nd note: Anyone over 19 is not going to
look like a 16 year old. Please don’t submit yourself. We appreciate
you taking the chance, but it’s not going to work for the film.) This
person needs to be dynamic and compelling on camera. We want young
Brandos, Deans, and DeNiros. Larry is troubled and sensitive. He’s
quiet but can erupt with frightening rage. A year ago he accidentally
killed his best friend, Rand, who was addicted to drugs. Later, Larry
discovers Rand was taking illicit pictures of Larry’s 13-year-old
brother, Jim. Everyone says Larry’s not to blame for Rand’s death,
but Larry’s not so sure. You see, Larry and Jim were involved in a
physical relationship. Larry struggles with his sexuality though he
claims he’s straight. He’s a poor communicator and can only express
himself through his temper. Above all, he wants to be loved, feel
important, and be noticed, though he doesn’t know how to communicate
his needs and is invisible to those who should care most. Larry’s
main redeeming factor is that he searches for a “right way”… but
the situation is too strong, or he is too weak. Despite
the “terrible” things he does we must like and feel sympathy for him.
We’re looking for an actor who can fully dig their teeth and nails
into this role. Someone not satisfied with “good enough” or playing a
scene the way we’ve seen it done a million times. We want a thinking
person who’s willing to do their homework, build a character from the
ground up, and surprise us every day on-set. WE ONLY WANT TO WORK
WITH PASSIONATE, ENTHUSIASTIC, AND DEDICATED INDIVIDUALS as serious
about taking their craft to the next level as we are about taking
filmmaking to the next level. We want to make a film that’ll be
talked about years from now, not just a weekend.
JIM (Lead) Note: Again, BEFORE submitting a client, agents need to
verify with the actor’s legal guardian that they are comfortable with
the subject matter of this film. The character is gay. He’s been
involved in a physical relationship with his brother. No, he’s not
having sex on-screen, but yes the story does focus on the aftermath
of the situation, and it is discussed. If the child is not mature
enough for the part that’s understandable. .. just don’t submit him.
As for the description: Jim’s 13, Caucasian, skinny, cute. In the
book he’s blond but it’s not necessary. Jim is pretty independent. He
has had to take care of himself because his home life is unstable
(his mom drinks and his dad is dying of cancer). Jim is mature enough
to understand the function of sex, but not “adult” enough to grasp
the consequences of having it. He’s a sweet, sad kid who ultimately
just wants love and acceptance like the rest of the characters. This
is a complex role requiring an actor with intelligence and maturity
beyond his years. Like the others though, we will expect him to be
serious and committed to the part and deliver a performance above and
beyond what he thinks he’s capable of. We also want this to be a FUN
project, where everyone can bring their creative ideas to the table.
PAYMENT: SAG ULTRA LOW BUDGET ($100/day), onset meals, a copy of
final project on DVD. For any actors cast out-of-state we will
