Seeking musical theatre actors for the Los Angeles Premiere of this sophisticated, fun musical thriller based on the 1968 William Goldman movie starring George Segal, Lee Remick, and Rod Steiger.

Seeking:

MORRIS BRUMMELL: Baritone, mid-30s to early 40s. New York Jewish detective; warm and appealing, but shy with women and not overly handsome. Tough, honest, and full of integrity; unintentionally charming, became a cop because of his high ideals and ethics, but desires fame and professional success to offset his own insecurity and romantic shyness. Has an inner strength that’s not readily apparent. (Played by George Segal in the movie. Could be a Jason Alexander type.)

CHRISTOPHER “KIT” GILL: Baritone-tenor, mid-30s to mid-40s. Charming and good-looking, an unsuccessful actor whose mother was the equivalent of Norma Desmond. Desperate to live up to her legacy, he will do anything to get on the front page of the New York Times even if it means becoming a serial killer. But the murders are all part of the performance, all proof of his talent, as he adopts various roles to lure his victims, and he’s good at it an Irish priest (like Barry Fitzgerald), a Latin ballroom dance instructor, and a female hooker. Must be able to dance.

SARAH: Soprano, mid-20s-30s. Morris’s “shiksa goddess” girlfriend. Beautiful ingenue who works at an art gallery. Attractive, sunny, funny, and sophisticated, she has lived as a part of the exclusive Upper West Side set and found it to be a world of vapid ego and stupidity. Now she is looking for a substantial love with internal beauty.

FLORA: Mezzo-soprano, middle-aged. Jewish Mother of Morris. Lives in Brooklyn with her son her other son is a doctor and she feels Morris fails to live up to his potential or to the bar set by his brother. Because of this she is hard on him, using every tool in her arsenal to encourage his success, including guilt and nagging. In addition to playing this role, she also plays Kit’s diva actress mother and Kit’s victims a motherly Irish widow, a flirty Italian widow, and a hooker with a heart of gold. Must be able to dance.
