shadow of his father in laws success who is the president of the college.

MARTHA: Fifty-two-year- old wife of a college history professor. Martha
defines herself through her ‘Daddy,’ the president of the college in the New
England town of New Carthage. Martha is a braying, heavy-drinking
embarrassment, who delights in insults and gruel mental games with her
husband and anyone else unfortunate enough to be in ear shot. Elizabeth
