Casting call for SAG feature film “Finding Hope Now”

Feature Film SAG Ultra Low (Papers Pending) “Finding Hope Now”
Director: Jennifer Tadlock
Starts May 25- June 20, 2009 in Fresno/Central Valley

Finding Hope Now is inspired by the true story of how Reverend Roger Minassian formed an organization “Hope Now For Youth” that takes gang members off the streets and transform their lives, through job training, education and their Christian faith. This story is about the trials and tribulations Roger had to face in getting this program started and how the first gang member, Santos, finally joined the program.

Casting:

SANTOS DELGADO: Hispanic youth (legal 18 or graduated from High School, or GED, to look age 16) is small in stature, with his hair pulled back into a ponytail. He is a nice kid who lives on the streets to avoid beatings from his father. Johnny wants him to join the gang for protection. Rev. Minassian wants him to get a good job and go straight. Santos is the center of the triangle between good and evil. He could go either way.

REYNALDO SANCHEZ: Hard Hispanic gang youth (age 19) with a shaved head, tattooed arms, and a body builder physique. He has “Los Muertos” tattooed on the back of his head. Reynaldo is the antagonist in the story. He is an imposing character, a leader in the gang.

JOHNNY HUERTA: Mixed race (part Hispanic) gang youth (legal 18 or graduated from High School, or GED, to look age 16) with a skinny build. He has a long braided ponytail. Johnny has joined the gang and wants Santos to join also.

FILBERTO TORRES: Likable Hispanic gang youth (age 18) who is a member of “Los Muertos”. He is older and more experienced in gang life than Santos and Johnny, but he can be swayed by Rev. Minassian. The problem is that he has a gambling problem.

SYLVIA VILLANUEVA: a beautiful Hispanic girl (legal 18 or graduated from High School, or GED, to look age 14), who looks totally innocent, and is the pregnant girlfriend of Santos.

GABRIEL: an Hispanic young man (22), who has long hair in a ponytail, becomes the first Hope Now for Youth counselor.

DAVID HERNANDEZ: (22), street wise Hispanic young man who takes over when Gabriel quits his position as Hope Now Counselor.

MARILYN MINASSIAN: White Armenian woman (age 49) who is Roger’s wife. To her the streets are way too dangerous for Roger. She wants Roger to stay as senior pastor until he retires.

MRS. LYDIA HARTUNIAN (MRS. H.): White Armenian woman (age 82) who is short, stooped over, and walks with a walking cane. She dresses impeccably, and speaks with an Armenian accent. Lydia attends Roger’s church, has never moved from the rough neighborhood, and has developed a special relationship with Santos

AGNES KALANJIAN: (81) is a dear friend of Mrs. H. She moves slowly, and wears thick eyeglasses. She has an Armenian accent.
