This is an audition for a Shakespeare in the park-type project that will be performed in early 2009 at parks in the Los Angeles area. Any questions can be submitted here.

One of Shakespeare’ s best known comedies.

Seeking:

BENEDICK: (Male, 30’s-40’s) Cynical, witty. Considers himself above marriage and love, but is actually in love with Beatrice.

BEATRICE: (Female, late 20’s to early 40’s) Strong, smart woman. Also considers herself above marriage, but is actually in love with Benedick.

CLAUDIO: (Male, 20’s to mid 30’s) Headstrong, young soldier. Serves under Don Pedro, and is considered favored. A bit naive. In love with Hero.

HERO: (Female, 20’s to mid 30’s) Young, naive. In love with Claudio.

DON PEDRO: (Male, 30’s to 50’s) Prince of Aragon. In charge of the military. Half-brother to Don John.

DON JOHN: (Male, 30’s to 50’s) Illegitimate half-brother of Don Pedro. Forgiven after attempting a coup, he is the villain of the story.

LEONATO: (Male, mid 40’s to 60’s) Governor of Messina. Old friends with Don Pedro, and Father to Hero.

ANTONIO: (Male, 40’s to 60’s) Brother to Leonato. Father of Beatrice. Protective of his niece, Hero.

MARGARET: (Female, 20’s to 40’s) One of Hero’s ladies-in-wait. Has a secret relationship with Borachio.

URSULA: (Female, 20’s to 40’s) One of Hero’s ladies-in-wait.

BALTHASAR: (Male, 20’s to 30’s) Soldier under Don Pedro. Must be able to sing and play guitar.

BORACHIO: (Male, late 20’s to 50’s) Soldier under Don Pedro, but is loyal to Don John. Has a secret relationship with Margaret.

CONRAD: (Male, late 20’s to 50’s) Soldier under Don Pedro, but is loyal to Don John.

FRIAR FRANCIS: (Male, late 30’s to 60’s) A Friar.

DOGBERRY: (Male, late 20’s to early 60’s) Messina’s constable. Naive. In his own world.

VERGES: (Male, late 30’s to 70’s) Old. Decrepit. Second in command to Dogberry.

THE WATCH: (Males, 20’s to 40’s) Three Men who are townsfolk-turned- militia.

THE SEXTON: (Male, late 30’s to early 60’s) Basically the Town Clerk. Might double-cast with the Friar.
