Casting “The Hysteric Dynamic”, a student film project from Temple University
The Hysteric Dynamic is a student film project from Temple University. It will be shot on super 16mm color film and will go into production in early December.
Synopsis:
The action of The Hysteric Dynamic starts with a radio. This is not an ordinary radio, as the device will destroy “the balance” of a Family. When The Son bumps into the antique radio, the station switches from classic radio play, to a broadcast on machines infiltrating Earth, obliterating humanity. The Father takes charge of what action his Family should take only to be challenged by The Daughter, deserted by The Wife, and treated indifferently by The Son. Can this Family band together and achieve their balance again, or will the Hysteric Dynamic take over to cause self-destruction?
Breakdown:
Character Breakdown
Father- (40-60) The father fancies himself an intellect, but is susceptible to new forms of media. After work he likes to unwind with a drink and a good read by the fireplace. He values books as if he they held the secret of life and with them, he really feels like he has the answers. He also believes that In the rare occurrence of a stressful situation he is not afraid to take control of his family by any means necessary.
Wife- (35-45) The wife is a step-mother that has really only come into the picture a couple of years ago. She knows she has the attention of the husband, but she is really after the focus of the son for whom she has an attraction. As chaos unwinds, she uses the situation as an opportunity to play the damsel in distress, hoping the son will be her hero. Small amount of nudity required.
Daughter-(17-21) The daughter is wrapped up in the idea of going off to college and the chance to discover the successful young lady she aspires to be. She generally keeps to herself and reads empowering women magazines. She has been considering challenging the father for the position at the head of the family and when the opportunity arrises, she fights for it.
Son-(10-14) The son is a typical young boy slowly transitioning into manhood. He works hard in school and occasionally indulges himself in some sort of hobby. For now the new fascination is model aircrafts. Though he may not be as close to his sister as he used too he still looks up to her. He does seem to have an eye for his step-mother.
Auditions are on November 13th in Philadelphia and on November 15th in Middletown, PA.
Please come with two monologues and be prepared to read from the script.
