Chicago, IL Casting Calls: This Can’t Be Love Play Reading

Reading Audition Notice
NOTE: Please submit all ethnicities & all types as dictated below. This is a non-paid, non-union script in hand reading of an original play.
All actors will be asked to attend two four hour rehearsals prior to the reading.
Please submit all head shots and resumes via the submission form below no later than October 29, 2010 with the character’s name in the subject line.

Auditions will be held on October 30, 2010 from 1PM-5PM. Successful applicants will receive the audition address and sides; do not prepare a monologue.


IRIS HALL (mid-late 20s; African-American): A striking lounge singer with a style all her own. Iris dances around the topic of love, but she wants it more than anyone. Determined, soulful, and passionate. She must have great timing, a gawky self awareness, and a zest for life. Must have a legit singing voice. Submit all body types. (LEAD)

PHILLIP WEXLER (40; Caucasian): A WASP-y banker who’s attractive in his own way. He’s a hopeless romantic who will do anything for the woman he loves. Kind, attentive, and in love with the idea of being in love. Must have great timing, a playful sense of humor, and a passionate soul. Submit all body types. (LEAD)

JORDAN JOHNSON (mid-late 20s): A worldly wise author of a successful series of werewolf books. He’s openly gay and always dates closeted men. He’s looking for someone to complete him. Jordan is loyal, successful, and wants the world to fall in love. Must have deft comedic timing and the ability to handle a wide range of emotions. Iris’ best friend. Submit all body types and all ethnicities. (SUPPORTING) PRE-CAST

LUCY TILLMAN (40): A smart lawyer who’s been burned in love one too many times. She’s cold and cynical, but she desperately wants someone to pay attention to her. Lucy is droll, unapologetic, confrontational, and driven more than anyone else. Must have great dramatic instincts. Phillip’s best friend. Submit all body types and all ethnicities. (SUPPORTING)

DARA (early-20s): A sprightly model without many real concerns. She’s not the brightest woman, but she knows how to keep a man. Feisty and driven. Any ethnicity. (FEATURED)

Additional notes:

There will be a four hour rehearsal on November 6, 2010 and a two hour rehearsal on November 7, 2010. An informal reading in front of a small audience will take place after the two hour rehearsal on November 7, 2010. A formal reading for industry professionals and potential backers will take place on November 15, 2010 at 7:30PM. All actors who participate in this reading may be asked to reprise their role in a future production of the show.
