OLIVER: A pudgy man, early to mid forties. Poor, but has plans for getting rich. Wants to own his own bookshop.
STAN: A skinny guy, a bit younger than Oliver, his best friend. Absent-minded. Oliver tries to keep him out of trouble, but Stan always gets into trouble.
MAXINE: Late thirties. Has an imperious air and a collection of bugs, especially spiders. Has to reign in the bad behavior of her younger brother, Max.
MAX: Writer of trashy detective novels. Early forties, dresses like he’s still in one of the prep schools he attended as a child. Bitter, surly, usually drunk.
MAXIMILLIAN: 55+ Famous writer, father of Maxine and Max. Thought to be dead, actually kept under house arrest by his children. Still writing despite being shut off from the outside world.
