Seeking to escape the demands of life in London, Pam Fitzgerald and her brother, Roddy, an aspiring playwright, discover a charming house on the west coast of England, overlooking the Irish Sea. The house, Cliff End, has long been empty, and they are able to purchase it at a suspiciously low price. The reason is soon apparent: The house has an unsavory reputation. Fifteen years earlier a murder may or may not have occurred by the gnarled tree that can be viewed from the parlor window. Slowly the Fitzgeralds begin to sense the evil spirit that still inhabits the house. With help, Cliff End is forced, at last, to reveal its dark secrets and the ghost is discovered to be not only real, but dangerous.
Stella Meredith – 18-21ish – Charming, sweet, polite and quite vulnerable. Family connected to Cliff End, which is currently owned by her grandfather Commander Brooke.
Commander Brooke – 60s – Stella’s grandfather. Stern, overprotective man, very controlling, and not afraid to show it.
Roddy Fitzgerald – 20s-30s – Honest, simple, playwright. Very friendly but a bit of a smartass. New owner of Cliff End. Takes a liking to Stella.
Pamela Fitzgerald – 20s-30s – Creative, enthusiastic, and intelligent. Lover of the Arts. Sister to Roddy. Lives at Cliff End with her brother Roddy.
Lizzie – Any Age – Pam and Roddy’s housekeeper and family friend. Very loyal and very superstitious. Becomes friends with Mrs. Jessup.
Mrs. Jessup – 40s-60s – Middle-aged, gossipy neighbor. Looking for an odd character.
Wendy Carter – 20s-30s – A vivacious, spiritual, actress friend of Pamela and Roddy. Breezy, flashy, heavy interest in the paranormal world.
Max Hillard – 20s-30s – Comical, painter friend of Roddy. Currently involved with Wendy and protective of her.
Dr. Scott – 50s – Pleasant, honest village doctor. A man of science and facts, not the supernatural.
Miss Holloway – 40s – Glamorous, cold, and slightly sinister. Governess and former nurse of the Meredith family. (This role is for a strong actress, who can command the stage.)
