“You’ll Do Fine” – comedy/drama, student film in Detroit, MI
Paul Smith thought he had everything figured out, but as he takes his first job as a guidance counselor in a local high school he quickly finds that spouting off automatic responses does little to help anyone. When he meets, Taylor, a high school girl with a chip on her shoulder, he quickly realizes to truly help anyone, he has to help himself first.
Roles:
Paul – mid-20s white male. Recently broke up with girlfriend. Anxious about new job, but eventually learns to hide it.
Taylor – 18 year old high school student. Sarcastic and acts tough. Hides her vulnerability. Wise beyond her years.
Sarah – early-mid twenties teacher. Bright and bubbly teacher at the school. Is interested in Paul.
Marie – mid twenties female. Paul’s ex-girlfriend. Doesn’t know what she wants. Believes that she loves Paul, but mostly wants him out of convenience.
Jeff – 17 year old boy. Depressed and somewhat socially awkward. Looks up to Paul, but is irritated by his lack of enthusiasm towards him.
Alicia – late 30s – early 50s. Principal of the high school. Doesn’t let student’s problems affect her anymore. Very professional and businesslike. Seems cold and uncaring, but ultimately just wants to get the job done.
